Microsoft Baseline Configuration Analyzer 2.0

The BPA tool is used to analyze an instance of SQL Server for Best Practice configuration.

Download the 2008 R2 version here.

As a prerequisite you first need to have installed the Microsoft Baseline Configuration Analyzer 2.0.

The login you run the program under must be a member of the sysadmins role. If not you will get an error about the login. (Just because the login is a member of a group that has the sysadmin role is not enough, it has to be specifically in that role.)

When you run the BPA program you connect to the server you want to check and begin the scan, the output will show you errors, warnings and those checks which are compliant. You can then use this as a task list to make sure your SQL Server adheres to microsoft best practice.
